Pride News: Sacramento Pride Signs 3 Headliner Acts
RuPaul’s Drag Race Winner Bebe Zahara Benet, U-Haul Girls & Kaylah Marin Live
at Festival
March 16, 2010, SACRAMENTO—Bebe Zahara Benet, the season one winner of Logo Network’s “RuPaul’s Drag Race,” will appear live onstage at the 2010 Sacramento Pride Festival, Saturday, June 19, at Capitol Mall.

Other Pride headline acts will include TWSS, or That’s What She Said, an L.A. musical comedy duo perhaps best known for their “U-Haul: The Music Video,” and Kaylah Marin, whose dance remix hit “On the Floor (Oh Baby Please)” currently is #4 on the Billboard Club Play Charts.

“We have worked hard this year to find acts to appeal to a wide variety of audiences,” said Pride Chair Josh Jacoby. “Bebe is an amazing artist who has a major following here and in San Francisco. TWSS is a comedy/musical act that pokes fun at lesbian stereotypes and is fun for a wide audience. And Kaylah is a lesbian from San Francisco who has an amazing look and excitement. She seems very sweet and excited to be here, and she can’t wait to invite her family who lives in the area.”
The Sacramento Pride Entertainment Committee also is considering applications from numberous local and regional entertainers interested in performing at Pride 2010. The committee will select performers based on type of act, performance quality and audience appeal.
Benet was born in Cameroon, got her start as a model while living in France, and currently resides in New York. She is a recording artist who draws on her West African heritage to create a unique combination of world infusion music with house, dance and pop sounds. Her first single and video, “I’m the Sh*t,” was released in November 2009.
TWSS consists of vocalist Amy Turner and pianist/vocalist Kathryn Lounsbery. Their act mixes comedic riffs on lesbian stereotypes with the sounds of jazz, rap, folk, disco, light opera, and power ballads to entertain and enlighten. They also wrote and recorded “Why Is My Right Wrong?” a moving ballad and video reflecting on the anti-gay marriage Proposition 8 vote.
Marin’s music has been described by exclusivemagazine.com as a “groovin’ blend of R & B and neo-soul.” Her single “Lovin’ Life” and video featuring scenes from Barack Obama’s life also has been a YouTube favorite. The San Francisco-born lesbian recently moved to Los Angeles.
