Pride entertainment line-up shines with star power!

The Sacramento Pride Festival, Saturday, June 19, 2010, at our exciting new Capitol Mall venue, will feature a variety of live entertainment on two live stages, and our new Amtrak High-Energy Dance Stage, featuring popular local DJs. Here’s a run-down of the amazing acts scheduled to appear so far:

Bebe Zahara Benet, the season one winner of Logo Network’s “RuPaul’s Drag Race,” is a recording artist who draws

on her West African heritage to create a unique combination of world infusion music with house, dance and pop sounds. Her first single and video, “I’m the Sh*t,” was released in November 2009. Benet was born in Cameroon, got her start as a model while living in France, and currently resides in New York.

LOGO Network favorite Joel Evan is an American singer/songwriter who writes and sings in both Japanese and English. The powerful opera-trained baritone voiced artist has released two albums independently: “Enjoy the Sadness” (March 2007) andSinger-Songwriter Joel Evans ("Storm"), live June 19 at Sacramento Pride“Embracing the Light.” The first single and video from “Embracing,” titled “I’ll Keep Smiling,” (January 2009) made a big impact in clubs and on cable television programming.

Los Angeles-based musical comedy duo That’s What She Said is perhaps best known for their “U-Haul: The Music Video,” which has become a YouTube sensation. TWSS consists of vocalist Amy Turner and pianist/vocalist Kathryn Lounsbery. Their act mixes comedic riffs on lesbian stereotypes with the sounds of jazz, rap, That's What She Saidfolk, disco, light opera, and power ballads to entertain and enlighten. They also wrote and recorded “Why Is My Right Wrong?” a moving ballad and video reflecting on the anti-gay marriage Proposition 8 vote.

Soul singer and songwriter Kaylah Marin’s dance remix hit “On the Floor (Oh Baby Please)” currently is #4 on the Billboard Club Play Charts. Marin’s music has been described by exclusivemagazine.com as a “groovin’ blend of R & B and neo-soul.” Her single “Lovin’ Life” and video featuring scenes from Barack Obama’s life also has been a YouTube favorite. The San Francisco-born lesbian recently moved to Los Angeles.

Sacramento Pride entertainers are selected by a volunteer committee of community members based on type of act, performance quality and audience appeal.
